Spotlight On The 2008-2009 Prairie Bud Titles

Below you will find links to information about each of the nominated Prairie Bud titles including a summary of the book's story, reviews of the book, its reading level, and its accelerated reader points. All of this information should be used to familiarize you with the nominees and guide you in connecting the right book to the right child.

Helpful Hints

The Prairie Bud & Pasque Committee offers you the following hints for making the most of the Prairie Bud Award Contest in your classroom or library.
  1. Obtain a copy of the South Dakota Children's Book Awards nominated titles list. *(Requires Adobe Acrobat)*
  2. Read the books ahead of time.
  3. Ask your librarian to order the books for your library.
  4. Order paperback copies from student book clubs.
  5. Choose two or more favorite books from the list to use as read-alouds.
  6. Organize a plan for integrating the titles into your current curriculum. Look to see how the books might help teach specific curricular skills and objectives.
  7. Encourage students to read titles from the list. Reward those who read at least five titles and qualify to vote.
  8. Vote In March. Take the time to evaluate and vote on a favorite.
